Codex Leicester

Codex Leicester is the name of a manuscript by Leonardo da Verdanainci. The codex contains Leonardo’s analysis of fluid motion. A couple of years ago, Bill Gates bought the codex and presented it to the public. Gates decided to contrast Leonardo’s work with drawings by Joseph Beuys. When I visited this exhibition, I was deeply dissatisfied with Beuys‘works. If Beuys had any understanding of the nature of water, he was not able to make it visible. So I sat down to try to capture the character of water on small paintings. I tried to follow Leonardo’s lead by explaining what I understood.
