Paintings and Calligraphy

Paintings

The display of pictures is always connected to the question of the size. Since putting miniatures of paintings of several quadrat meters on screen would damage the impression, you may only find samples of my smaller works on this site.

Is the headline for a series of small or middle sized landscape paintings. They transport the atmosphere of the prevailing day. There are no humans to find - quite normal in times of a lock down. But you can discover relicts of mankind or watch some cosmic incident. I hope observers can invent stories to any painting.

Codex Leicester(10 Paintings)

Image
Codex Leicester is the name of a manuscript by Leonardo da Verdanainci. The codex contains Leonardo’s analysis of fluid motion. A couple of years ago, Bill Gates bought the codex and presented it to the public. Gates decided to contrast Leonardo’s work with drawings by Joseph Beuys. When I visited this exhibition, I was deeply dissatisfied with Beuys‘works. If Beuys had any understanding of the nature of water, he was not able to make it visible. So I sat down to try to capture the character of water on small paintings. I tried to follow Leonardo’s lead by explaining what I understood.

Maelstrom(3 Paintings)

Image
The maelstrom cycle contains about 50 pictures of different size and technique. I was inspired for this cycle by a poem by Edgar Allan Poe.

Mongolic Visions(10 Paintings)

Once upon browsing through an antiquities shop, I came across a nicely bound little book. „Intrigued by Dschinghis Khan“ by Heinz Waterboer. It looked like it was made in the 1930ies. I just bought it, because it looked well preserved. Back at home I started reading because I liked the gothic print. Unexpectedly I found myself captured by the story of the book. I won’t go into all the details of the plot. It should suffice to say that the vivid descriptions of the landscapes and the curious mood of the book got my attention.
